So be wary if you are someone who absolutely needs their games to be gameplay first. The interactions the game provides are very minimal, with some segments you can walk around a small hub and do some minor investigation and interactions, but more often than not you are choosing dialogue from a tree and doing some QTEs. You are playing it to see the story first and foremost. When I say telltale titles are like movies or tv shows, I mean it as well. Telltale titles tend to have certain decisions you can make throughout the story that adapt it so it feels a bit more personal but ultimately there are only minor changes or alternate scenes that occur that eventually reach to the same plotpoint so don't expect WILDLY different playthroughs. ![]() It contains its own story that advances the plot but ends at a good spot you can take a break and return to the next episode at a later date, or immediately after if you prefer. They are episodic and each episode acts as a 'season' of sorts. If you've never played Telltale titles before, think of them as interactive movies/TV show seasons. As I said above one of the characters can even be seen in the trailer of Borderlands 3, so if the implication is that other characters from here will show up as well, why not be familiar with them? It also helps it's a great game as far as Telltale titles go. Personally I am going to tell you yes because as I mentioned above there are changes to the universe, introduction of characters and changes to the status quo of the overall cast that if you do not you might be confused in Borderlands 3 about some revelations. Should you play the game if you've played other Borderlands games and/or plan to play Borderlands 3? ( Major spoiler do NOT read if you have not played) Mentally preparing myself did nothing over I still found myself crying at points even when I knew certain moments were coming. The heavy moments while few and far in between, are done surprisingly well. The humor lands WAY more often than not in here, particularly from episodes 2 and onward. It takes what Borderlands 1 and 2 try to do and perfects it to a tee. The writing is hilarious from top to finish. Yeah, how could it possibly end up good to have a story based title in a universe that's basically humorous childish potty humor Mad Max setting? The writing in Borderlands 1 and 2 is very much a take it or leave it type of deal for MANY MANY folks since humor is so subjective and it is prevalent in every single part of the writing and missions in the three borderlands titles.īut wow. Here we have a developer that had specialized in heavy story based titles who wanted to make a character centric adventure title set in the Borderlands universe. Like many people who avoided this game initially, I was skeptical to give it a try. This is still my personal favorite title from them. And while there are certainly other contenders I would rank fairly high up due to different reasons (mainly Walking Dead S1 and The Wolf Among Us), after replaying this I am sticking by my guns. I tend to toot up and down the forum that this is the best Telltale game from their modern library. I started playing the title this morning and with a short break after each episode I just finished it all up. Not to mention a certain character makes a VERY clear appearance in the Borderlands 3 trailer which was super exciting because while the Telltale devs told everybody that the title was canon, there was always a chance that Gearbox decided to pull a fast one after years due to not liking certain directions with the universe, characters or plot. And I figured it had been long enough of a time since I played Tales from the Borderlands that it warranted a replay. ![]() ![]() I'm sure others in here got the itch to replay something Borderlands after Borderlands 3's announcement this past week.
